We know that starting an online jewelry business or any business for that matter can be daunting. It takes blood, sweat, tears and a crazy amount of energy. We’ve gone through the ups and downs and have compiled a list of five things you need to know to start successfully selling jewelry online.
Have you ever heard the saying, "if you’re not on social media, you better believe your competition is"? We can attest to the fact that not only is your competition on social media, but they're most likely killing it on social media. Creating an online presence doesn’t just mean building a website. Social media is your best friend as a business owner and if you can figure out which platform your target audience is most active on and hone in on them, you’ll be on your way to success.
If you want to start selling jewelry online, you better think long and hard about what makes you different. There are thousands of entrepreneurs trying to fit in where they can, but the good news is that there is enough business to go around. Our difference is that our jewelry is handmade by detailed artisans in Mexico. We also coined the terms Fine Sterling Silver and Alchemia ‘Zero Karat Gold’.
This step is vital. If you don’t know your brand story, how do you expect anyone else to? Think of very specific details of the person you want to sell to (their name, age, occupation, what they do for fun, their lifestyle, etc). This will help you narrow down your target audience and write up a story that connects to both you and your customers.
To anyone who wants to start selling products online, this is one of the most important items on the checklist. Unless Kim Kardashian is doing some late night shopping and randomly stumbles across your product, you most likely won’t become an overnight sensation. Get comfortable doing hard work, putting forth lots of energy and waiting as long as it takes to make your dreams come true. If you stay consistent, your dreams will catch up to you.
In the beginning stages of your business, you can definitely run it yourself. You most likely won't have any other option. Once you start to build some traction, you’re going to have to find people that you trust. Who do you hire first? We say hire someone who is great at the things you may not be so great at. This is the start of growing into a well-rounded business.
