Miami Talks: Laura Vila Talks Fashion, Fear and The City

For Charles Albert's Miami Talks blog series, Laura Vila opens up about her thoughts on Miami, how she stepped foot in the industry and what she does to keep inspired. Here is what Laura had to say:

What Laura says about the fashion industry:

I first realized that I wanted to work in the fashion industry, I would say when I was around five or six years old. I used to work in retail and when I would style people, they would ask, “what are you wearing?” or “where’d you get that?” and then little by little, I started to get more involved on Instagram. If I could go back and tell myself one thing, it would be to just start. There is a lot of hesitation when blogging and what holds back a lot of people is the fear. I’d say, don’t be afraid.

    What Laura says about Miami:

I was born and raised in Miami and I love the culture and flavor of this city. I’m Cuban, so what I love is that it has become this trendy fun place to be with some Latin flavor that can’t be found anywhere else. I don’t want to be basic and say that my favorite place is the beach, but it is one of the most beautiful parts of Miami. I love being near the water and feeling the breeze and energy. I think that the beach is the most basic answer for a reason! The one thing that I can’t stand and would love to change is most definitely the traffic and the drivers.

    What Laura says about jewelry:

I love minimal jewelry, but I wear it in the most non-minimal way. I’ll stack like five necklaces so then it’s not so minimal anymore. I always loved chunky accessories and used to wear bangles for a long time. I love dainty layering, but for example, if you’re going to a wedding, there’s nothing like a nice statement earring.

    What Laura says about fear:

My biggest fear when deciding to jump into creating content was what people thought and possibly not being good enough. There is a lot of competition. What you see on Instagram is the highlights of people’s lives and them perfecting their craft. You just have to work your way up. I had a pretty decent following because I had an interest in photography, which made a difference. Everything else grew organically and little by little.

What Laura says about getting inspired:

I think I mostly try to get out of my own head. I almost find myself either really inspired or really behind. It’s sort of like a double-edged sword because when I’m on Instagram, sometimes I see trends and can't wait to try them or I feel like, wow I could be doing so much more. Whenever this happens, I try to connect to the reason that I started.

What Laura says is her favorite Charles Albert piece:

The Alchemia Matte Oval Neckwire is simple but so cool. I also noticed the Alchemia hoop earrings. I really love those two.
